Frequently Asked Questions - Vulcan Alpha Bumper Plates
What is the difference between the regular bumper plates and the Alpha Bumper Plates?
Regular bumper plates are made to be dropped on rubber flooring or wood platforms. Using them on concrete or asphalt greatly reduces durability. Alpha bumper plates, however, can be dropped outdoors without risk of rubber damage. They are made from a patented Vulcan Alpha rubber compound that offers higher durability than standard bumper plates and are backed by a 48-month warranty.
Do the Vulcan black bumper plates bounce the same as the Alpha Bumper Plates?
Yes. Both have the same low-bounce performance. You could drop both plates side by side and see no noticeable difference. The Alpha Bumper Plates share the same controlled bounce characteristic as all Vulcan bumper plates.
I saw some other bumper plates that looked similar. Are they the same?
No. While some manufacturers use dye or flecks in the rubber to mimic the Vulcan Alpha appearance, they lack the proprietary rubber compound and durability. The Vulcan Alpha Bumper Plates, introduced in 2015, have a proven record of performance and longevity. Copycat plates made from standard rubber are prone to chipping, cracking, and wear when dropped on concrete or pavement.
Do the Alpha Bumper Plates use the same anchored insert that other Vulcan Bumper Plates use?
Yes. The anchored stainless steel insert used in all Vulcan bumper plates will not loosen or detach easily, unlike standard pressed-in inserts. Pressed-in inserts sit above the rubber surface and are not embedded during vulcanization, which reduces their long-term durability. The Alpha plates’ embedded insert enhances strength and lifespan.
